The 'real world' of business and commerce beckoned me. Never one to shirk a chalIenge, I learned about buying and selling and the value of virtues like patience, persistence and courtesy. I spent the next twenty years in business and worked for some big names like Abbey Life and AON, one of the world's largest brokers. This experience in the corporate world showed me how to deal with all aspects of my life in a professional and businesslike manner and I think it was my committment and diligence that eventually gave me an opportunity to work with one of the leading brands in the world today, McDonalds. For the past seven years, as Director of Football for McDonalds, I have spearheaded a grassroots football campaign to develop 20,000 coaches by 2010. | Obviously the McDonald's campaign is something that is close to my heart, but I also have a very busy schedule involving after dinner speaking, motivational conferences, hosting awards evenings, personal appearances and advertising and promotion campaigns.
I am also involved with a number of charities including Linc who are dedicated to supporting patients and their families affected by leukaemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers (www.lincfund.org) and Sparks, a children's medical research charity that funds research across the whole spectrum of paediatric medicine (www.sparks.org.uk ) My 40 years in football provided me with many happy memories but it delights me to be able to say that I am as active today in my business life as I was in my football career.
