News: Sir Geoff sends congratulations to golden rowing pair

As Team GB celebrates its first gold medal at London 2012, Sir Geoff has sent his personal congratulations to Heather Stanning of the 32nd Regiment Royal Artillery and her rowing partner Helen Glover.

Stanning and Glover raced to victory in the women's coxless pair at Eton Dorney, the rowing venue for the Games.

"As a friend of the 32nd Regiment RA, I have been keeping a close eye on Heather's progress at the Games. With her rowing partner, Helen Glover, she set out her stall on the first day with an Olympic record and has now got the Gold." said Sir Geoff. "It's a wonderful result for Heather and Helen, Team GB and the British Army. I am very proud to support the 32nd RA and it's wonderful to be able to congratulate Heather on a brilliant victory."

Sir Geoff Hurst MBE secured a unique place in the history of football when he became the first and, over 45 years later, still the only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final.

Knighted in 1998 and inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2004, Sir Geoff holds a special place in the hearts of football fans and has become an iconic sporting figure across the world.
